Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of controlling a hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the alternatives are limited as you won't have root access to the web server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. These are all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

When you have a web hosting account with us and you want to deal with your content remotely via SSH, you can get SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not offer this feature as standard, you could add it with a few mouse clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would like to use, considering that it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared numerous Help articles where you could find all of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and control them via SSH. If the package you have chosen incorporates this feature by default, you just have to activate the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the feature is listed as an additional upgrade, you are able to quickly include it through the Add Services/Upgrades link inside the Hepsia Control Panel and it shall be available within a minute. We have a number of help articles and video tutorials regarding the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands you can perform alongside various examples to give you a better perception of what you could do. If SSH is enabled, you'll also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data securely using any FTP app which supports the function.
